Korean artist Eunhyue Shin blurs the boundaries between the East and West as well as abstraction and representation through her dynamic oeuvre. Predominantly inspired by classical music, Shin utilizes the physical, instrumental object as the canvas upon which she paints. In works such as With Schumann Kinderszenen Op.15 (series 1) (2017), the artist embraces abstract form and geometric patterns within her application of acrylic paint and mixed media upon the cello. Her style is at once whimsical and memorizing as she transforms the audible object into a vehicle for visual exuberance. Shin explains: “I investigate questions about the world through my works – that which is visible and still invisible and that which is audible and yet audible.” The artist currently resides in South Korea.
