Leni Berliner’s landscape paintings seek to convey the energy of a place, balancing nature’s dynamism with serenity through the use of color and simplified composition. Inspired by water and sky, her aim is to share the sense of uplift she gets in nature, and let the viewer’s imagination take over. Working primarily in acrylic, Berliner draws on travel experiences in and around national parks, and daily walks. Having had the benefit of formal training in drawing and painting at the Corcoran College of Art + Design, her process begins with drawing exercises of gesture and contour, scene sketches and reference photos made on site. Berliner finds the practice of painting transformative and beneficial to other aspects of her life.
