Drawing inspiration from the lush atmosphere and rich indigenous history of her home in Belize, artist Lee Vanderwalker produces captivating silk paintings in rich colors that reverberate with the spirit of the Caribbean.  Embracing the controlled chaos of silk painting techniques, Vanderwalker adapts her artistic vision and goals throughout each artistic journey.  From this intuitive process of mark making, the artist renders simplified forms, often appropriated from the ancient Mayan visual lexicon which work together to create a heightened sense of primal human energy.  The vibrant colors of nature juxtaposed on the fragile surface of her silk paintings produces a breezy effect which is not only reminiscent of the Caribbean climate, but of the complex and beautiful history and culture that the artist has come to incorporate as her own.

Belizean-American artist Lee Vanderwalker grew up in Michigan but developed a strong artistic and emotional kinship with the culture of the Caribbean. She currently resides in Belize.
